After the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa, Mojisola Meranda has made history as the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has been appointed as the new Speaker following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa a man those who do not like him described as cocky and brash.

Obasa was removed from office over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of power. Meranda’s appointment marks a significant moment in the state’s political history.

1- Birth and Family Background: Mojisola Meranda was born on August 16, 1980, to the late Chief T. A. Lawal Akapo, the Ojora of Lagos, and Princess M. A. Lawal-Akapo. She hails from royal families including Ojora, Aromire, Onitana, Oloto, and Oniru.

2- Her Father’s Legacy: Her late father, Chief T. A. Lawal Akapo, was a local legislator before ascending to the position of the Ojora of Lagos.

3- Family Ties: Mojisola’s mother is from the Oniru family, and her brother, Oba AbdulWasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, is the current Oniru of Iru Land.

4- ducational Journey: Meranda began her primary education at St. Charles Nursery and Primary School, then attended Randle Primary School in Surulere from 1986 to 1992.

5- Secondary Education: She furthered her education at Lagos Anglican Girls Grammar School from 1992 to 1996 and Ansar-Ud-Deen Secondary School from 1996 to 1998, both in Surulere.

6- Academic Qualifications: In 1998, she obtained the West African School Certificate (WASC). In 2005, she earned an advanced certificate in software development.

7- Higher Education: Meranda graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration from Lagos State University in 2013. Prior to that, she worked in the oil and gas sector with Cirrus Nigeria Limited as a procurement manager from 2007 to 2008.

8- Political Involvement: Mojisola entered politics in 2008, initially serving as a Senior Special Assistant on intervention and intergovernmental affairs to the Chairman of Apapa Local Government, Ayodeji Joseph. She later served as a supervisory councillor for health.

9- Legislative Career: She was first elected to the Lagos State House of Assembly in 2015, representing Apapa Constituency 1. She was re-elected in 2019 and 2023.

10- Leadership Role: Prior to her new role as Speaker, Meranda served as the Chief Whip of the Ninth House of Assembly.
