Mr. P Responds Yo Darkoo’s Claims Of Sabotage, Theft
By Benjamin Abioye
Peter Okoye, also known as Mr. P, has responded to accusations made by Nigerian-British rapper Darkoo, who claimed he sabotaged her music video.
The controversy began when Darkoo accused Mr. P of facilitating a copyright infringement strike on her video for the song “Focus on Me,” which sampled Psquare’s “Gimme Dat.” Darkoo explained that she had received clearance from Psquare to use the sample and that the group was entitled to 50% of the song’s earnings. However, she claimed that Mr. P demanded to be featured on the track, a request she initially declined but considered for a possible remix.
Darkoo alleged that Mr. P’s actions were a deliberate attempt to ruin her project. In response, Mr. P’s management, ONE, issued a statement denying the sabotage claims. According to the statement, Darkoo’s video was taken down because she sought clearance from an unauthorized entity that no longer has rights to the Psquare catalog. This entity’s ownership is reportedly in dispute.
The management clarified that the 50% earnings claim came from the individual Darkoo first approached, not from Mr. P. The statement emphasized that Mr. P’s intentions were to guide the younger artist, rather than harm her career. It further criticized Darkoo for trying to capitalize on the supposed Psquare feud for attention, especially after reaching out to Mr. P’s team for help when the video was initially taken down.
The statement concluded by pointing out that Darkoo’s clearance process was flawed. She sought approval after releasing the song, from a defunct entity.
Despite this, when the video was reinstated on YouTube, Darkoo accused Mr. P of sabotage. His management insists that he was only advising her to do things the right way from the start.
