Ekiti Veteran Nigerian Broadcaster Dies

The first indigenous broadcaster from Ekiti State, Christianah Ademulegun, also known as ‘Eye Opitan,’ has passed away.

Christianah Ademulegun was well known for her deep knowledge of Ekiti town histories and their traditional praise poetry, ‘oriki.’ She died at the age of 74.

Her son, Femi Ademulegun, confirmed her passing in a statement. According to him, the veteran broadcaster died early Thursday morning after a brief illness.

Christianah Ademulegun worked with the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State before retiring. After retirement, she also worked as a consultant for some private radio stations in the state.

She is survived by her children and grandchildren.

Meanwhile, the Nollywood industry is mourning the loss of actor Columbus Irisoanga, popularly known as ‘Igbudu.’ His passing has come as a shock to many in the Nigerian film industry.

Veteran actress and politician Hilda Dokubo shared the sad news on Instagram. She described his death as a great loss to the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and Nollywood as a whole.

Irisoanga’s death comes just days after another Nollywood actress, Pat Ugwu, passed away at the age of 35.

Veteran actor Emeka Okoye confirmed Ugwu’s death in an emotional post on Instagram, expressing deep sadness over her untimely departure.
