A fresh controversy has erupted in South Africa as some citizens are calling for the removal of Home Affairs Minister, Leon Schreiber, following the sighting of Miss Universe First Runner-Up, Chidimma Adeshina, in Cape Town.

A viral video circulating on X (formerly Twitter) allegedly shows Adeshina, who was crowned Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, at a café in Waterfront, Cape Town. The clip has sparked outrage, with many questioning how she was able to re-enter the country despite previous immigration issues.

Watch the video below;

In October 2024, the Department of Home Affairs announced that an investigation had found prima facie evidence suggesting Adeshina’s mother may have committed fraud and identity theft. As a result, the government revoked the IDs and travel documents of both Adeshina and her mother after they allegedly failed to respond to an order requiring them to justify why their citizenship status should not be withdrawn.

The controversy had earlier forced Adeshina to withdraw from the Miss South Africa competition, amid accusations that she was not a legitimate South African citizen. Her mixed heritage—having a Nigerian father and a Mozambican mother—made her a target of xenophobic attacks, with critics demanding proof of her South African identity.

As tensions escalated over the fraud allegations linked to her mother, the Department of Home Affairs launched a full-scale investigation into her citizenship. Adeshina eventually stepped down from the pageant, later competing in Miss Nigeria, where she emerged as the winner before going on to secure her Miss Universe First Runner-Up title.

With her presence in South Africa, many South Africans are demanding answers from Minister Leon Schreiber, with calls for his removal over the alleged immigration lapse.
