First Bank Sends Urgent Notice To Customers
By Gideon Ayeni

First Bank of Nigeria has issued a notice to its customers regarding the expiration of cheques issued under the Nigeria Cheque Standard (NCS) and Nigeria Cheque Printers Accreditation Scheme (NICPAS) 2.0.
The First Bank advisory follows a directive from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) referenced as BKS/OSO/CON/BAN/001/004 pertaining to the life span of cheques issued by it in 2019.
According to the First Bank statement, the first batch of cheques printed in November 2019 under the NCS and NICPAS 2.0 framework has now exceeded its five-year validity period, rendering them invalid for transactions.
The bank advised customers to check the expiry date on their cheques, specifically in the bottom-right corner of the MICR line. Those with expired cheques have been urged to visit any branch of the bank to request a new cheque book to prevent disruptions in their banking transactions.

The development aligns with CBN’s continuous efforts to maintain efficiency and security in the banking system. Customers have been encouraged to take prompt action to avoid inconvenience in their financial dealings.
First Bank reiterated its commitment to providing seamless banking services and thanked customers for their continued patronage.
