Petrol Scarcity in Abuja, other states

Nigeria may soon face a nationwide fuel scarcity as the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has threatened to halt operations over the government’s failure to settle outstanding bridging claims amounting to ₦100 billion.

Giving notice of the impending fuel scarcity at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the Chairman of IPMAN Depot Chairmen Forum, Yahaya Alhasan, accused the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) of failing to fulfill its promise to pay the debt, despite commitments made 40 days ago in the presence of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

Alhasan disclosed that several northern depots, including those in Jos, Gusau, Minna, Suleja, Kaduna, Kano, Gombe, Yola, and Maiduguri, have been completely shut down due to the prolonged financial crisis.

“If NMDPRA doesn’t pay our money within seven days, we will withdraw our services across the nation,” he warned, raising fears of a looming fuel crisis.

IPMAN also condemned the NMDPRA’s introduction of a 5% levy on petroleum marketers, describing it as unconstitutional and harmful to business operations.

The association called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene, warning that failure to meet their demands would lead to a nationwide disruption in fuel supply, worsening economic hardship for Nigerians.
