Mourinho’s Suspension Reduced After Appeal
By Benjamin Abioye

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has reduced Jose Mourinho’s suspension from four matches to two after Fenerbahçe successfully appealed the decision. His fine has also been significantly lowered from 1.6 million Turkish lira (about £35,000) to 558,000 Turkish lira (approximately £12,200).
The punishment was initially given after Mourinho made comments during a press conference following a heated 0-0 draw against Galatasaray. The TFF accused him of making “derogatory and offensive statements” about Turkish football and its officiating.
Mourinho had previously expressed concerns about the state of Turkish football, describing it as being in “chaos and disorder.” Authorities viewed his remarks as an insult to Turkish referees and the football community.
The match was officiated by Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic after both teams requested a foreign official. However, controversy arose because the fourth official was Turkish, prompting Mourinho to further criticize the local referees.
Due to the suspension, Mourinho will miss Sunday’s important game against Antalyaspor. He has already been absent from a Turkish Cup match against Gaziantep FK.
Meanwhile, Mourinho has taken legal action against Galatasaray, demanding 1,907,000 Turkish lira (around £41,000) in damages. This follows accusations from Galatasaray that he made racist comments during the match.
During the game, Mourinho was reported to have said that the Galatasaray bench was “jumping like monkeys.” He has strongly denied any racist intent, stating that his words were “completely taken out of context.”
At the moment, Mourinho’s team, Fenerbahçe, is in second place in the Turkish Super Lig, trailing Galatasaray by six points.
