UBA has reinforced its commitment to gender inclusion, graduating 1,138 GMAP trainees, with women making up 58% of the cohort, highlighting its dedication to equality.

As the world marks International Women’s Day 2025, United Bank for Africa (UBA) has reaffirmed its commitment to gender diversity, equality, and empowerment.

The bank continues to take tangible steps toward fostering an inclusive workplace, as demonstrated by the latest graduation from its Graduate Management Accelerated Programme (GMAP).

On Wednesday, UBA celebrated the graduation of 1,138 trainees from its GMAP initiative, with women making up a remarkable 58% of the cohort—totaling 666 female graduates. This achievement underscores the bank’s dedication to empowering women and creating leadership opportunities within the financial sector.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony held at Landmark Event Centre, UBA’s Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Alawuba, emphasized the bank’s unwavering stance on gender inclusion. “This milestone is a testament to UBA’s continued efforts in fostering a workplace where talent thrives—regardless of gender, background, or status,” he stated.

Alawuba further highlighted that UBA does not just promote inclusion in words but demonstrates it through action. “With a female-dominated Board and Executive Management team, UBA has consistently shown that gender parity is a key pillar of its success. Our commitment goes beyond policies—it is evident in the tangible opportunities we create for women at every level of the organization,” he noted.

Recognizing the contributions of women to the bank’s growth, Alawuba reinforced UBA’s vision for gender empowerment. “At UBA, we do not just celebrate women—we amplify them. We believe that an inclusive workforce drives innovation, excellence, and long-term success. The fact that the majority of our new graduate trainees are women underscores our commitment to nurturing female talent and accelerating their progress in the corporate world,” he added.

UBA has long been at the forefront of gender empowerment, implementing initiatives that support female professionals, entrepreneurs, and communities. From mentorship and leadership programs to specialized financial services for women, the bank remains a trailblazer in advancing gender inclusion within Africa’s financial landscape.

UBA’s Group Head of Human Resources, Modupe Akindele, reiterated the institution’s dedication to staff development, regardless of gender. “Our goal with GMAP is to show young professionals that their dreams are valid right here in Africa. We are not just providing jobs; we are creating pathways to leadership, innovation, and impact. This programme ensures that young people, whether male or female, see the immense possibilities that exist within UBA and the African financial sector at large,” she stated.

United Bank for Africa is one of Africa’s largest financial institutions, employing over 25,000 people and serving more than 45 million customers worldwide. With operations in 20 African countries, as well as the United Kingdom, the United States, France, and the United Arab Emirates, UBA continues to lead in financial inclusion and technological innovation across global markets.
