Terrible President! Presidency Slams Atiku’s Support For Corps Member
By Benjamin Abioye

The Presidency has condemned Atiku Abubakar for supporting an NYSC corps member who called President Tinubu “terrible,” calling it poor politics.
The Presidency has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for defending Ushie Uguamaye, also known as Raye, a corps member who described President Bola Tinubu as terrible.
Atiku, a former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had publicly supported Raye, calling her a symbol of hope for Nigerian youth. In his statement, he said, “I deeply admire her boldness and wisdom—her fearless resolve to speak truth to power, undeterred by the weight of opposition.”
Reacting to Atiku’s statement, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, criticized him on Sunday through a Facebook post. He argued that it was inappropriate for a former Vice President to support what he described as indiscipline by a corps member.
Ajayi wrote, “A former Vice President of a country and perennial presidential contestant who will likely run to be President at 80, in another two years from now, should not be seen supporting and celebrating bad behaviour and indiscipline by a Corps member who breached her code of conduct.”
He further stated that this issue was not about free speech but about following the rules of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), which, like other regimented services, has strict codes of conduct.
“This is not a matter of free speech and right of expression. NYSC is a regimented service with a strict code of behaviour. Members of the armed forces, police, paramilitary institutions, and civil servants are citizens with rights and freedom of expression, yet their rules of engagement forbid them from publicly speaking against the government,” he explained.
Ajayi emphasized that those who choose to break such rules must be ready to face the consequences. He concluded, “Anyone that wants to be a deviant should be ready to face the consequences. It is poor politics for a former Vice President of Nigeria – a symbol of authority to endorse any form of bad behaviour no matter how convenient.”
