A Nigerian police officer allegedly shot a man at the Efab Metropolis Bridge, sparking tension in the area.
Eyewitness reports indicate that the incident led to chaos, with tear gas deployed and a group of motorcyclists gathering at the scene in protest.
According to a witness who recorded the aftermath, the shooting occurred at Efab Metropolis Bridge as she was traveling from Dawaki.
In a video statement, she described encountering tear gas, which left her eyes burning. She recounted seeing a police officer exit his vehicle and fire at a group of men, whom she referred to as “Aboki people,” who were carrying sticks and riding motorcycles.
“I saw the policeman come out from the car and he shot at some Aboki people that had sticks and bikes,” she said. “There were so many of them pursuing the policeman. I couldn’t take a video because the tear gas was already affecting me. My whole face is hurting.”
The witness also confirmed that the officer fired directly at one of the men, leaving him lifeless in a pool of blood. “This just happened right now at Efab Bridge,” she stated. “That’s the man. He was shot down by a police officer. I saw the man pull the trigger.”
Following the shooting, several Hausa motorcyclists gathered at the scene, blocking the road in protest. The situation remains tense, with no official statement yet from the police regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting or the identity of the officer involved.
Authorities are expected to respond as concerns grow over the use of force and the potential escalation of violence in the area.
