Nigerian Policeman Dies Cheering Arsenal To Victory Over Real Madrid
By Benjamin Abioye

Tragedy struck in Calabar on Tuesday evening when Inspector of Police, Stephen Enang, collapsed and passed away shortly after watching his favorite football team, Arsenal, defeat Real Madrid 3-0.
Inspector Stephen Enang, originally from Ekori in the Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, was serving at the Akim Police Division along IBB Way in Calabar and a passionate fan of Arsenal.
According to eyewitnesses, Enang had been in high spirits throughout the match. One of his close friends, who was with him during the incident, shared details of the heartbreaking moment. The friend, who requested to remain anonymous, recalled, “We were watching the match at a viewing centre on Abang-Asang Street. He was in great spirits—healthy, happy, cheering every goal. Arsenal scored the first, second, and third goals, and he was overjoyed.”
The friend continued, “He jumped up in excitement multiple times. But after the final whistle, when everyone started leaving, we noticed Stephen wasn’t getting up like the rest of us. That’s when we realized something was wrong.” Enang had collapsed in his seat and became unresponsive. He was immediately rushed to the Police Hospital in Akim, where medical staff worked hard to revive him. Sadly, he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Stephen Enang’s friend speaking after the Arsenal match, added, “He was soft-spoken, football-loving, and an ardent Arsenal supporter. This came as a huge shock to all of us,” expressing their disbelief at the sudden loss of their beloved colleague.
