By Benjamin Abioye

Barcelona smashed Dortmund 4-0 with Lewandowski on fire, while PSG fought back in style to beat Aston Villa 3-1 as both teams edge closer to the Champions League semi-finals.
Barcelona and PSG have both taken big steps towards the UEFA Champions League semi-finals after winning their quarter-final first-leg matches on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
Barcelona showed their strength by beating Borussia Dortmund 4-0 at home. Robert Lewandowski scored two goals in the match, increasing his total goals for the season to 40. Raphinha started the scoring for Barcelona, and young star Lamine Yamal added the fourth goal. “It’s time for us to sheath our swords,” said a Barcelona official, showing their confidence after the victory.
This win puts Barcelona closer to reaching the semi-finals for the first time since 2019. They have also extended their unbeaten run to 23 matches. Coach Hansi Flick used a strong lineup, with Fermin Lopez replacing Gavi in the midfield. Barcelona controlled the match from the beginning. Dortmund’s goalkeeper Gregor Kobel made some good saves, but he couldn’t stop the goals.
Yamal, only 17 years old, played a key role in the game. He created many chances and was involved in the build-up to the first goal. Inigo Martinez also scored after a free-kick, with the goal confirmed by VAR.
Although Dortmund tried to fight back, they found it difficult to break Barcelona’s solid defense. Lewandowski scored again early in the second half and completed his brace with a powerful shot. Yamal sealed the win with a fourth goal after good teamwork with Raphinha.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defeated Aston Villa 3-1 in their quarter-final first leg in Paris. Aston Villa took the lead in the 35th minute through Morgan Rogers. However, PSG equalized quickly with a beautiful goal from Desire Doue.
After halftime, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored a stunning goal to put PSG ahead. Nuno Mendes added a third goal during injury time, giving PSG a two-goal lead before the second leg in Birmingham.
PSG’s coach Luis Enrique was pleased with the result, especially after knocking out Liverpool in the previous round. Aston Villa will now need to perform very well at home if they want to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 1982.
