New Update On Policemen Lining Up To Receive Money From Chinese

The Police have formally reacted to the viral video of policemen lining up to receive money from a Chinese national, describing the conduct as “unprofessional and unethical.”

In a statement released on Thursday via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the police strongly condemned the behavior displayed by the officers, stating that the conduct of policemen lining up before the Chinese to collect money falls far short of the standards expected of members of the Nigeria Police Force.

“The actions of the officers do not represent the established ethics, standards, and core values of the Nigeria Police Force. The Force has zero tolerance for such unprofessional behaviour and other forms of misconduct, which undermine public trust and confidence,” the statement read.

The video, which has drawn sharp criticism across social media, shows a group of uniformed officers lining up to receive ₦5,000 cash gifts from a Chinese man and woman, who were also seen filming the incident. The officers appeared cheerful and appreciative, prompting outrage from Nigerians who saw the act as demeaning and a breach of professional ethics.

According to the statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the officers involved have been identified and are currently undergoing disciplinary proceedings.

The Police also issued a caution to individuals and organizations that engage police officers for escort or guard duties, warning against any behavior that could demean the Force or compromise its integrity.

“The Nigeria Police Force hereby cautions individuals and organizations privileged to the services of police personnel… to desist from any act capable of degrading the integrity of its officers and bringing the Force to disrepute,” Adejobi said.

This development follows other recent cases involving police misconduct and interactions with foreign nationals, adding fuel to ongoing calls for reform and accountability within the Force.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining professionalism, discipline, and public trust in all its operations irrespective of the video of policemen lining up to receive money from Chinese nationals.
