Top APC Chief Dumps Party, Alleges Vindictive Politics
By Gideon Ayeni

Ben Nwoye, the immediate past chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, has officially announced his resignation from the party.
Nwoye made the announcement during a press conference on Thursday, April 17, where he revealed that his decision was prompted by the deepening disarray within the party’s leadership in the state.
In his address, Nwoye emphasized that his departure was the result of thorough consultations with key political figures and supporters, signaling the end of his association with the party. Although he refrained from revealing his next political move, he expressed his disappointment over the party’s current direction, stating, “The bunch of brooms we painstakingly tied together in 2013, at a time when they were referred to by unflattering names, has now come undone and scattered for good.”
Nwoye’s statement was laced with sharp criticism of the APC’s leadership in the South-East, which he described as engaged in vindictive politics. He accused the party’s regional leadership of being uninterested in expanding APC’s footprint beyond the two states it currently controls in the region. “As far as they are concerned, the supremacy of the party is defined by how low they can go in oppressing their perceived political enemies. This has been done without any regard for the core principles on which APC was built – Justice, Peace, and Unity,” Nwoye remarked.
He further expressed his frustration with the APC’s national leadership, alleging that the party was basking in the euphoria of its power at the federal level under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. According to Nwoye, the national APC leadership has consistently treated calls for party unity and reconciliation with disdain, dismissing party elders and loyal members who seek resolution.
“The APC’s national leadership has shown a lack of respect for those who built the party, treating loyal members as if they were conquered foes rather than valued allies,” Nwoye said, adding that the party had failed to address the concerns of its grassroots supporters.
