In an unforgettable Europa League quarter-final, Manchester United completed a dramatic 5-4 comeback win over Lyon, sealing a 7-6 aggregate victory and keeping their Champions League hopes alive.

Manchester United have kept their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League alive after an incredible 5-4 victory over Lyon at Old Trafford.

The win gave them a narrow 7-6 edge on aggregate in their Europa League quarter-final.

The match started well for United, who took a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to goals from Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot. Lyon, who had just lost badly to Newcastle, didn’t seem prepared for the pressure. But things changed quickly in the second half.

Lyon’s captain, Corentin Tolisso, scored with a close-range header, and soon after, Nicolas Tagliafico added a messy goal to level the game. However, Tolisso was shown a red card before full time after receiving a second yellow.

Despite being a man up, United couldn’t hold control. Substitute Malick Fofana led a counterattack that ended with Rayan Cherki blasting a low shot past a helpless Andre Onana. Cherki had also scored in the first leg that ended 2-2.

Then Fofana was fouled in the box by Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro. Alexandre Lacazette stepped up and calmly sent Onana the wrong way, making it 4-2 to Lyon with only ten minutes to go.

Fans at Old Trafford were in shock, but the drama wasn’t over. United got a penalty when Casemiro was fouled, and Bruno Fernandes slotted it in to make it 4-3.

Next, young substitute Kobbie Mainoo curled a beautiful shot into the corner to bring United level on the night. Just when extra time looked certain, Harry Maguire — playing up front late in the game — rose to meet a cross from Casemiro and headed in the winner past Lucas Perri.

The stadium erupted, and moments later the final whistle confirmed United’s dramatic comeback and sent them into the semi-finals. The result was a boost for the home team and a crushing end for Lyon.
