Bandits Kidnap, Girls, Teachers From Kebbi School
Bandits have kidnapped some students of Federal Government Girls College, Birnin Yauri, Kebbi State, Daily Trust has reported quoting security sources.
Details of the incident are still sketchy but there are reports that a security operative was shot dead during the operation though that claim has yet to be independently verified.
The attackers, who rode on motorcycles, were said to have stormed the school from neighbouring Rijau forest in the early hours of Thursday.
They were said to have overpowered the mobile policemen guarding the school.
At least 30 students and three teachers were abducted, according to security sources.
This is the third known attack on a school in the country within three weeks.
On May 30, pupils were abducted from an Islamic School in Tegina, Niger State.
Two weeks later, bandits abducted staff and students at Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic in Kaduna State.
The attack by the bandits on the Kebbi school, came after President Muhammadu Buhari vowed that the abduction of more than 300 girls from a girls secondary school in Zamfara last February would be the last of such abductions.
Remarkably, the attack came as President Buhari was in Borno State, the epicentre of the Boko Haram insurgency which is inspired by the ideology of keeping western education out of the reach of the citizenry.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that since the abduction of school children at the end of last year, that a number of parents and pupils have vowed not to return to their schools in part helping to realise the ideology of the Boko Haram group.
