Bizman Mum As Police Refund N500,000 Bribe

The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday refunded the N500,000 extorted from a businessman by policemen in the state.

The unidentified businessman was forced to part with the N500,000 by policemen who arrested him for violating the 10 p.m. curfew imposed as part of the nationwide lockdown.

They were said to have threatened to detain him overnight and then charge him to court in the morning for violating the curfew. The policemen were said to have then extorted the N500,000 from the businessman.

He, however, lodged a petition with the commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, who ordered an investigation following which the policemen involved were fished out and the money retrieved from them.

Mr. Odumosu personally refunded the money to the businessman on Wednesday and vowed that the policemen who have been arrested would be prosecuted.

An angry Odumosu, vowed that the police under his command would not tolerate such unprofessional conduct  from policemen.

“Appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken against the policemen”.

The victim, however, refused to speak when approached opted not to talk about the matter.
