Oshiomhole Resonates At Shaibu’s Thanksgiving
Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was understandably not present at the thanksgiving of the deputy governor of Edo State, Hon. Philip Shaibu in Jettu on Sunday.
However, thoughts of the immediate past governor of the state and immediate past national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC resonated at the church thanksgiving as Shaibu paid tributes to him for teaching him his elementary, secondary and tertiary education in politics.
Oshiomhole who reportedly grew up partly in Shaibu’s father’s house in Kaduna in the seventies was believed to have played a role in Shaibu’s political rise through his election as president of National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, member of the Edo State House of Assembly, member of the House of Representatives and as deputy governor of the state.
Speaking at the thanksgiving, held at St. Philip Catholic Church in Jettu, Etsako West Local Government Area, Shaibu said:
“Adams Oshiomhole taught me all I know now politically. He made me stand my ground and helped us end godfatherism. I have no quarrel with Adams Oshiomhole”, he declared.
Shaibu, however, led the fight against Oshiomhole in the September 19, 2020 election after both men disagreed over a second term for Governor Godwin Obaseki.
He thanked God for what he described as the unique political accord between the APC and the PDP that led to Obaseki’s second term election saying that Nigerians must draw lessons from such to push the country ahead.
“We must come together as a nation in recognising our shared interests in placing boundaries on our competition in order not to divide the nation into hostile and irreconcilable camps. This dangerous impasse is one of the areas where the wisdom of Governor Godwin Obaseki has reigned supreme.
Rev. Father Godrick Shabba who delivered his sermon titled: “Rejoice In The Lord”, asked Christians to be strong in God and emulate the heart of gratitude as shown by Shaibu in giving glory to God for his goodness.
