Popular activist, Aisha Yesufu, has stirred the hornets’ nest after she enjoined couples to keep their mothers away from their marriages.

Yesufu had tweeted: “Your mother is the first person you should keep out of your marriage once you are married.”

Her statement was brought up for discussion in the popular TVC programme, ‘Your View’ on Thursday. Remarkably, one of the presenters of the show, Akashat Zibiri agreed with the view of the activist.

Akashat said: “Keep your mother out of your marriage, not out of your life. Your wife cannot take over the role of your mother and vice versa, keep each of them in their place.”

However, another presenter, Mariam Longe, disagreed with Akashat  as she stated that mothers shouldn’t be shut out in the marriage.

Mariam said: “Except you didn’t have a good relationship with your mother before marriage. I don’t see the rationality behind just shutting your mother out immediately after marriage. You need to give room for good counsel.”

This development stirred reactions on social media as many took to the micro-blogging platform  to  express their views as some stated that an activist like Aisha Yesufu cant be a good marriage counselor while some stated that she is right with her assertion since mothers brings a lot of pressure if allowed to contribute in marital issues.
