The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna.
The district head was kidnapped from his palace on Saturday night at about 10 pm by heavily armed gunmen.
Abiodun said that the police were already on the bandits’ trail to rescue the district head.
“The Police tactical team and members of the vigilante of the area have been deployed for manhunt of the hoodlums, with a view to rescue the victim and arrest the culprits”, he added.
He called on residents to support security agencies with intelligence information to aid in the fight against banditry and kidnapping in the state.
The kidnap of the Niger State monarch from his palace is bound to further raise tension in the state following the reign of banditry that has led to the kidnap of hundreds of school children.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG learnt that the monarch was taken away alone by the bandits who were heralded by heavy shooting as they made for the palace.
They, however, did not harm anyone else in the palace in the process of getting the district head.
” They arrived on motorcycles at 10pm yesterday and shooting into the air that threw the whole palace and the area into panic.
“They left with our ruler and presently, nothing has been heard on his whereabout ,” an eyewitness stated.
