Man City's De Bruyne Tests Positive For COVID-19

Pep Guardiola has revealed Kevin De Bruyne contracted COVID-19 while on international duty, meaning Manchester City will be without the midfielder for the next ten days or so.

De Bruyne featured in Belgium’s two World Cup qualifiers during the national team break, playing well against both Estonia and Wales as the Red Devils secured their spot at next year’s global showpiece in Qatar.

However, the 30-year-old will now miss the weekend’s fixture against Everton as well as the Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain. His availability to face West Ham next weekend is also in doubt.

Speaking in his press conference before his side’s clash with Everton on Sunday, Guardiola said: “We have Jack getting better after he went to the national team. Phil Foden came back with a knock and a problem in his leg, but he is getting better. And unfortunately, Kevin got a positive COVID-19 test in Belgium and needs ten days.

“We found out two days ago, he is here. Forget about fitness and momentum, he [De Bruyne] is positive, now he has to recover.

“We have to be careful, people are dying from COVID, he is vaccinated so hopefully he will be okay. There is no concern about rhythm it’s about the human being.”

Man City are currently second in the Premier League, three points behind Chelsea, and are favourites to beat Everton. They are a point ahead of PSG in their Champions League group, though they lost to Mauricio Pochettino’s side earlier in the campaign.

De Bruyne has made eight league appearances so far this season, scoring twice while he is yet to register an assist. The goals have been shared around by City this season, with Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden their current top scorers in the league with three apiece.
