Knocks, Kudos As Nigerians Input Politics Into EFCC Arrest Of Okorocha
By Bassey Marshall
Politics was on Wednesday morning infusing into the arrest of the penultimate governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, following the nine hour standoff between the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant, and operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC following which he was bundled away on Tuesday night.
Recall that on Tuesday evening EFCC picked up Okorocha from his residence in Maitama area of Abuja.
The arrest came about five months after he was first arraigned in court on multiple allegations of corruption by the EFCC just after he had declared his presidential aspiration last January.

The anti-graft agency had earlier invaded the residence of the former Imo State governor in an attempt to arrest him. The EFCC explained that the invasion followed the refusal of Okorocha to report to the commission after he was granted administrative bail months ago.
At the arrival of the EFCC operatives Okorocha refused to give himself up but rather demanded for a court order or warrant of arrest. Journalists and political sympathisers were summoned to the scene in a move apparently interpreted to give a political tone to the development.
Meanwhile, the arrest came a day after Okorocha hosted a meeting of Igbo presidential aspirants to forge a consensus on their aspirations. It also came hours before he was due to appear before the APC Presidential Screening panel.
Okorocha has also been engaged in a fight with the Imo State government which has accused him of looting the state.
The development led to diverse reactions on social media on Wednesday with some hailing him as a philantropist while others mocked him for running away from the law.
GWGNG gathered some of the reactions by Nigerians on the EFCC arrest of Okorocha.

I will keep asking, have you ever seen FBI, Interpol or CIA arresting in this manner?
Adébólá @Dumbgenius_ng
I do not agree with their style of arrest, but do not compare other countries with Nigeria, our ways are purely different and you have to adapt to your environment. Once they have a warrant, they can use any means to arrest, as long as they are sure the criminal is in the house
MDB ?? @MatawalBulus
I laugh in Spanish. You did same to him on d day he declared to run for d President of Nig. & you are doing that on a day of APC screening he is reguired to attend for d same office & barely a day after hosting a meeting of all Ndigbo APC Presidential candidates. Ndigbo watchout.

Also reacting to the EFCC arrest of Okorocha with innuendoes at other political actors, others said:

Okay, we thank you for this update. Kindly inform us when you are going to storm Bola Tinubu’s home. As far as I know, there are two strong petitions on your table concerning Tinubu. one is the alpha beta issue & two is the bullion van issue. Fear God & do the needful. Thanks
