In a major development for modern day Christianity, American preacher, Creflo Dollar known worldwide as one of the  major exponents of the prosperity gospel has turned around asking his flock to throw away all old teachings he did on the issue in the past.

It is a major development for the Christian community in Nigeria which had been majorly influenced by the prosperity gospel as imported from America.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that his move has, however, been flayed by some in Nigeria.

In an unusual admission of error, Creflo Dollar who had in the past been criticized for his use of seed faith, and who in 2015 stirred controversy after a $65 million dollar private jet fund raiser, said that the whole principle of tithing was in conflict with the gospel of grace under which Christians are supposed to live.

Creflo Dollar has in that direction asked his flock to throw away his books, tapes, and videos he made on the topic.

Creflo Dollar said that the whole preaching on tithe was framed on fear and guilt which he said were alien to the call of grace.

He anchored his new belief on Romans 6: 14: “For sin shall not have dominion over you; for ye are not under the law, but under the grace.”

Dollar who had in the past emphasized on Christians not paying tithe as robbers by not bringing all the tithe to the store house, lampooned himself saying that Christians had equaled the church to a store house.

“The church is not a store house for grains,” Dollar said as he debunked all the principles on which prosperity preachers had conveyed their messages.

Creflo Dollar nevertheless affirmed that his message did not mean that Christians should not give. He used the illustration of the widow who gave a mite saying that she gave out of her living affirming that giving should affect living.

“If what you are giving cannot move you, it means that it then cannot move God. You cannot tell a millionaire that giving a $100 will move him,” Creflo Dollar said.

The turn around for Creflo Dollar is in the step of Benny Hinn who had also recently renounced the prosperity gospel.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that one of the famed prosperity preachers in Nigeria Abel Damina had also recently recanted his advocacy of the prosperity gospel.

However, the development was being received with mixed feelings in Nigeria on Monday.

A Nigerian preacher who spoke to GreenWhiteGreen GWG flayed the move as unfortunate. He particularly flayed the inclination of Dr Damina saying that he has totally rejected the Old Testament as a shadow.
