Liz Truss has become Britain’s third female prime minister after meeting Queen Elizabeth II at Balmoral Castle arriving ten minutes late for her appointment after her plane to Aberdeen was delayed by ten minutes.

The Queen asked Truss, 47 who was escorted by her husband, Hugh O’Leary, to form a new government after earlier accepting Boris Johnson’s resignation. She is the 15th prime minister to serve under Her Majesty, the Queen.

GWG reports that Johnson bid farewell to No 10 earlier in the morning after 1,139 days in office. In an early morning speech from the podium in Downing Street he outlined his legacy and called on the Tory Party to unite behind his successor.

The former prime minister in an acclaim on his stewardship said that he was like a booster rocket who has done his job and was now safely returning to the atmosphere.

He suggested he would slip into political obscurity, although a reference to Roman statesman Cincinnatus fuelled speculation he could consider a future comeback

Truss will address the nation later this afternoon from Downing Street with the make-up of her cabinet set to emerge shortly after

Details of her plans to address the energy crisis, the most pressing issue for the new government, are set to become clear as soon as Thursday.
GWG reports that the meeting between Liz Truss and the queen was cast in expectations on how the two ladies would engage one another given her new prime minister’s past as a radical advocate of the abolition of the monarchy.

However, the meeting seemed to have gone on very cordialy as the queen smiled while shaking Truss without gloves.
