Northern Senators-Elect Insist On Senate President, Send Delegation To Tinubu

Senators-elect from the North have insisted that the region must produce the senate president in the 10th national assembly and sent two ranking members to President-Elect Bola Tinubu on their decision.

It was gathered that the lawmakers from various political parties, took the decision Sunday night during a meeting in Abuja, which was attended by 39 out of the 58 northern senators-elect.

Daily Trust had, last week, reported that the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has concluded plans to pair the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, with Senator Jibrin Barau (Kano) as Senate president and deputy respectively.

A senator from the North West, who preferred not to be named, said yesterday that the northern senators-elect insisted that the senate president should be zoned to the north in appreciation for the region’s support to the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the last presidential election.

He said the meeting resolved to reach out to their counterparts from the south to support their position.

The source added that the Forum had also delegated two of its ranking members to meet with the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to relay their resolutions to him.

GWG.ng reports that the insistence on the Northern Senators could be tricky for the APC and could be seen as religiously insensitive except the region is able to come up with a Christian given that the president-elect and his deputy, are both Muslims.
