Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State on Friday made a symbolic gesture of his ‘Happy Hour’ pledge to the citizenry when he stopped his convoy on the way from Uyo Airport to familarise with local street traders and corn roasters along the road.

GWG.ng reports that Governor Eno had before his inauguration drawn attention with a promise of a ‘Happy Hour’ moment as a way of boosting the hospitality industry in the state.

In a tweet, the governor said:

While coming back from the airport, I made a spontaneous stop to buy corn and spread “happy hour” cheers for the sellers. It’s important to support our local farmers and create moments of positivity in our community. Together, let’s embrace the joy of simple gestures that make a difference in people’s lives.

The farmers, corn sellers and traders who had at several times seen high-level officials pass their way were excited with the brief interaction with the state’s number one citizen.

The governor’s action was promptly lauded by a number of citizens who hailed him for his common touch.

There were, however, some who thought otherwise.

GWG.ng gathered some of the reactions:

There were also some reservations about Governor Eno’s happy hour moment with the corn roasters.
