Falana Names Facebook Users In Petition On Death Threats At Mohbad’s Widow, Son
Falana & Falana Chambers has submitted a petition to the Lagos State Police Command over alleged death threats directed at the widow and son of late singer, Mohbad.
In a letter addressed to the State Commissioner of Police, Fayoade Adegoke, the human rights lawyer Femi Falana’s law firm expressed concerns about threats received by Omowunmi and Liam, the singer’s wife and son respectively, from several social media users.
The petition specifically names seven users across Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok as the source of these threats: “Westo Adekunle Adejumo, Peckins Rules, Larry Omodia (African TV), Arifanlajogunomoagba, Bukola Jesse, Kudi Alowonle (Yeye Kudi Courtroom), and Themuicpivot.”
Dated December 28, the law firm emphasized the need for protection against cyberbullying and defamation of character for Mohbad’s wife and son.
The letter states, “Request for the intervention of the office of the commissioner of police, Lagos state command on the threat to lives, cyberbullying, criminal defamation of character of Cynthia Omowunmi Aloba and Liam Aloba and conduct likely to provoke breach of public peace.”
The law firm reminded the commissioner of police of the ongoing coroner’s inquest into the questionable circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death in September 2013. The singer’s remains were exhumed for autopsy on September 21, with the results pending public release.
While mourning her late husband, Mrs. Cynthia Wunmi Aloba, the deceased’s wife, reportedly continues to face death threats from anonymous phone callers and the specified social media users.
The law firm urged the commissioner of police to intervene in safeguarding the lives of Mohbad’s family members and addressing the alleged cyberbullying and defamation they are facing.
