Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Igbo socio-cultural group, is pressing former President Muhammadu Buhari for transparency regarding the arrest and trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB).

Nnamdi Kanu was extradited to Nigeria from Kenya in 2021 under controversial circumstances after fleeing the country while facing charges of alleged terrorism, treasonable felony, and incitement. He has remained in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his extradition.

Buhari, as reportedly quoted in a book authored by his former media aide, Femi Adesina, acknowledged that bringing Kanu back to Nigeria for trial was a favor.

Reacting to these comments, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, secretary-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, expressed concern, stating that Buhari’s acknowledgment of the possibility of eliminating Kanu is a “flagrant validation of international conspiracy against the Igbo.”

The group is urging Buhari to “summon the righteous resolve within him and provide Nigerians with an unambiguous account of the truth.”

In a statement, Ohanaeze Ndigbo demanded that former President Muhammadu Buhari face the Nigerian populace and answer for his alleged involvement in an “egregious international conspiracy” against the Igbo during his tenure.

While initially dismissing conspiracy theories, the group’s suspicions were heightened by Femi Adeshina’s revelations, acknowledging a contemplation of the “killing option” before resorting to court prosecution for Nnamdi Kanu.

These admissions expose a nefarious web in which Buhari’s government entangled itself, willingly executing the scripts of international conspirators against the Igbo in their arrest of Nnamdi Kanu.

The group emphasizes the blatant disregard for court pronouncements in favor of Kanu’s release, further fueling suspicions of a sordid partnership with international forces. Ohanaeze Ndigbo implores Former President Buhari to summon the righteous resolve within him and provide Nigerians with an unambiguous account of the truth, stating that justice and transparency demand nothing less. The group asserts that the Igbo people, alongside all Nigerians, deserve honesty and accountability.
