Former banker kills wife

In a tragic turn of events, Mike Ilishebo, a 44-year-old former bank employee, shocked his community by committing a horrific act against his wife, Valerie Franco, 35, before taking his own life in Zambia.

The heartbreaking incident unfolded in the serene neighborhood of Meanwood Ndeke Phase One in Lusaka on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.

Rae Hamoonga, the Police Public Relations officer, conveyed the grim reality of the situation in a statement released on Thursday, April 4. He recounted how Mr. Ilishebo allegedly strangled Valerie with an electric power adapter cable and inflicted fatal stab wounds to her abdomen with a knife.

According to Hamoonga, the distressing report was received by authorities around 4:05 PM on April 3, 2024. Alice Mapulanga, 38, bravely informed the Chelston Police Station through Ndeke-vorna Police Post about the appalling incident.

Upon the arrival of the Police Scenes of Crime officers at the scene, Valerie’s lifeless body was found in the bedroom, adjacent to the bed, with a knife piercing her abdomen. Meanwhile, Mr. Ilishebo was discovered deceased in the sitting room, with a mysterious black substance emanating from his mouth.

“It’s alleged that Mr. Ilishebo strangled Ms. Franco using an electric power adapter cable and subsequently stabbed her in the stomach with a knife, before taking a poisonous substance, resulting in his own demise,” Hamoonga stated.

The harrowing event is said to have occurred between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM.

In a somber conclusion, Hamoonga revealed that the bodies were transported to the University Teaching Hospital mortuary for further examination. He noted that the motive behind the tragic incident appears to stem from a prolonged marital dispute between the couple, who shared an eight-month-old child.
