Bobrisky sentenced

In a landmark ruling that has sent shockwaves across social media, popular Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, famously known as Bobrisky, has been sentenced to six months in jail with no option of fine. The judgment was handed down by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos during a court session held earlier today, April 12.

The sentencing stems from Bobrisky’s involvement in an incident of Naira abuse during a recent celebration he attended. The self-proclaimed ‘mummy of Lagos’ was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on April 5th, facing a six-count charge, including allegations of Naira abuse and money laundering.

While the court dismissed the money laundering charges, Bobrisky was convicted for Naira abuse after confessing to the offense. Subsequently, Justice Awogboro ordered his remand in EFCC detention in Lagos pending the hearing for judgment, which was initially scheduled for April 9 but was postponed due to the Eid-Fitri public holiday observed from April 9 to April 11.

The sentencing of Bobrisky has ignited a flurry of reactions on social media platforms, with many expressing surprise and disbelief at the severity of the punishment. The ruling serves as a reminder of the legal consequences associated with financial misconduct, even in the realm of celebrity culture.
