A helicopter in a convoy carrying the Iranian president has been involved in an accident, state media is reporting.

GWG.ng further reports that the reports are still vague as the plane is also being described by some news agencies as missing with many security agencies having been mobilised to find the president.

It is currently unclear whether Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was on board the helicopter that state media say experienced a hard landing.

The Interior Minister said rescuers were still trying to reach the site due to the difficult weather conditions.

According to local media, President Raisi was heading to the city of Tabriz, in the north west of Iran, after returning the border with Azerbaijan, where he opened the Qiz Qalasi and Khodaafarin dams.

GWG.ng reports that the area of the accident is described as very difficult to reach and authoritative reports on the fate of the president remain vague. The accident area in the Northwest is said to be difficult to reach with heavy fog and there are new fears that even the first responders mobilised to the area may even find it difficult to reach the presidential travel party.

Some analysts are also suggesting sabotage on the claim that the helicopter conveying the Iranian president was travelling in a section of the country that borders Azerbaijan, a country that has cordial relations with Israel.
