Nigerian Man Mistakenly Sets 9-Year-Old Child, Four Others On Fire Over Land Dispute

A tragic incident has struck the Mubi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, where an arson attack claimed the life of a 9-year-old child and left four other children severely burned.

The devastating fire, which occurred in the home of Daniel Cha’ama, was allegedly sparked by a land dispute between Cha’ama and his neighbor, Nicodemus Ajaku.

According to local sources, Ajaku, who is currently on the run, mistakenly targeted the children’s room, believing it to be Cha’ama’s. In a cruel twist of fate, the fire engulfed the room where Cha’ama’s five children were sleeping, leading to the death of young Chimba Daniel and causing life-threatening injuries to his siblings—Dida Daniel, Isaac Daniel, Nglacha Daniel, and Emmanuel Hyeldinga.

The incident, which took place in the village of Vimtim within Mubi North LGA, has left the community in shock. Neighbors reported that Ajaku, after setting the room ablaze, fled the village and remains at large. The arson attack, initially intended to harm Cha’ama, tragically missed its target and instead caused the death of his son Chimba, who succumbed to severe burns while being rushed to the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital in Yola.

The Adamawa State Police Command has launched a manhunt for Ajaku. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Morris Dankwambo, has ordered a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrator to justice. The police have also been directed to provide support for the injured children who are currently receiving medical treatment.
