Edo: INEC Postpones Collation, APC Leads As PDP Kicks (Updated)
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has shifted the collation of results of the governorship election in Edo State after announcing 16 of the 18 local government area results.
GWG.ng reports that the two outstanding local government results were being expected from Oredo and Ikpoba-Okha, incidentally two LGAs that are closest to and within the Edo State headquarters of INEC.
The returning officer Prof Faruk Kuta claimed that the results from the two local governments were still being prepared and he could not give a definite time for the recommencement of the collation. However, upon a chorus from stakeholders at the collation centre he deferred the resumption to 5.00 pm.
GWG.ng reports that the APC was leading based on the declared results leading with 10 of the 16 LGAs so far declared.
The PDP agent at the collation centre, Dr Tony Iyoha, repeatedly interjected that the results being announced by the INEC officials were manufactured particularly noting that in some cases that the number of votes returned for the APC in some polling units were more that the number of accredited voters. His assertions were, however, robustly challenged by the APC representative, Jarret Tenebe who affirmed that the results were reflective of the results of the election.
Ikpoba-Okha, incidentally the LGA where the INEC collation centre is situated is the base of the PDP running mate, Osarodion Ogie.
Ogie had in the wee hours of Sunday raised the alarm that collation of results in the two local government areas was stopped and transferred to the state headquarters where according to him PDP agents were stopped from partaking in the collation.
