JUST IN: Kano Gov Passes Strong Message To NNPP Chairmanship Candidates
The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has held a conversation with the chairmanship candidates of his party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, ahead of the forthcoming local government election in the state scheduled to be held on October 26, 2024.
During the meeting with the chairmanship hopefuls, the governor stressed the need for them to connect with their constituents and share the party’s message of restoration for mutual development.
In a short post on his official X handle on Sunday evening, Governor Abba Yusuf also expressed optimism that the party would emerge victorious at the polls.
The wrote, “I was pleased to hold a conversation with our chairmanship candidates of the NNPP in the forthcoming local government election in Kano State.
“In the meeting, I emphasised that the candidates have to connect with their constituents and share our message of restoration for mutual development.
“I am confident that we shall emerge victorious come 26th of October.”
Recall that Abba Yusuf won the 2023 governorship election in the state under the new NNPP party defeating the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the then deputy governor of the state, Yusuf Gawuna.
Gawuna was the anointed candidate of then Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, while Yusuf was keenly supported by the former governor of Kano state and presidential candidate of the NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Yusuf the winner at the end of the collation across 44 local government areas (LGAs) in the state.
The returning officer, Ahmad Dokko Ibrahim, announced that Abba Yusuf won the election with 1,019,602 votes, while Gawuna got 890,705 votes.
The NNPP is a populist political party in Nigeria and is predominantly active in Kano state.
