Why A Man Took His Life By Consuming Sniper
A 58-year-old man named Bamidele Omolayo has died by suicide in Igburowo town, located in the Odigbo Local Council Area of Ondo State.
He reportedly consumed a harmful chemical and a pesticide known as Sniper. His body was discovered by an elderly resident of the community, who raised the alarm.
Before taking his life, Bamidele had a brief argument with a family member during which he made threats about ending his own life.
An anonymous source shared, “I was told that he was engaged in a shouting match with his brother before he took the rash decision.”
The source noted that his body was later found lying on the main road that connects the community to a nearby farm settlement.
The incident shocked the community, with one resident suggesting that Bamidele may have left his home early in the morning and walked several kilometers to the outskirts before committing suicide. No suicide note was found at the scene.
Following the discovery, community members reported the incident to the Ore Area Command of the Nigeria Police Station. His body was subsequently taken to the mortuary at the State Specialist Hospital in Ore, Odigbo Local Council.
Police spokesperson Funmilayo Odunlami confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation is underway. She added, “The police are aware of the report of suicide, but we do not have details of what led to it; an investigation will unravel that.”
