Fake Native Doctors Anambra

The Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, has explained that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s recent statement against native doctors targets only those fake ones involved in criminal activities, not legitimate traditional healers.

The clarification came after concerns arose among native doctors over the governor’s remarks during a recent event.

In his statement, the commissioner emphasized that the government’s intention is to identify and eliminate the practices of fraudulent native doctors aiding crimes such as kidnapping and armed robbery. He noted that some of these individuals prepare charms for criminals and engage in harmful rituals, including alleged human sacrifices.

“To set the record straight, Soludo never declared war on all native doctors but rather on fake and diabolical practitioners involved in criminal activities,” Mefor stated. He further explained that genuine traditional medicine practitioners, who contribute positively to society, have nothing to fear.

Mefor added that investigations have uncovered shocking activities by some native doctors in the region, including rituals linked to scams like “Yahoo Plus” and other harmful practices. These activities, he said, are eroding societal values such as integrity, hard work, and morality, which the Igbo culture holds dear.

The commissioner stressed that the governor’s goal is to preserve the integrity of traditional medicine by rooting out criminal elements. “His stance is not a blanket condemnation of traditional medicine or all native doctors but a targeted effort to address those using spiritual powers for illegal purposes,” Mefor clarified.

He called on citizens to support the government’s efforts by reporting suspicious activities. “Security is everyone’s responsibility. If you see something, hear something, say something,” the statement concluded. The government also urged collaboration to uphold the values of respect for human life, morality, and cultural heritage.
