Anthony Joshua’s Knockout Of Ngannou Wins 2024 Knockout Of The Year

The Nigerian-born British heavyweight boxer, Anthony Joshua, has been recognized for his impressive knockout of Francis Ngannou as the ‘2024 Knockout of the Year.’

His victory in March, which saw him stop the former UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou in the second round, stood out in a year that featured many remarkable knockouts in heavyweight boxing. CBS Sports, an American sports network, highlighted Joshua’s performance amidst a competitive year in the sport.

Joshua’s skill was evident as he dropped Ngannou in the first round, then followed up with a powerful right hand that led to a second knockdown in Round 2. He sealed the victory with a devastating overhand right, securing a significant win over Ngannou, who had previously suffered a controversial split decision loss to Tyson Fury. This win helped Joshua solidify his place among the elite in boxing.

However, Joshua’s year wasn’t without its challenges. In September, he faced Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium, where things didn’t go in his favor. Despite a solid career, Joshua suffered his second-best knockout of 2024 during this fight. Dubois, who had captured the IBF heavyweight title earlier in the year, dropped Joshua four times before landing the decisive blow, causing Joshua to be unable to continue the fight.

While Joshua’s year had its ups and downs, his overall 2024 campaign was impressive. He competed three times, finishing the year with a strong record of 28 wins, 5 losses, and 25 knockouts.

Currently, Joshua is back in Nigeria, spending time in his hometown. On New Year’s Day, he visited President Bola Tinubu, marking a significant moment in his visit. The heavyweight boxer was also seen training at his residence in Nigeria, preparing for future challenges while reconnecting with his roots.
