A flood of over half a million applications has been submitted for the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) recruitment, sparking widespread anxiety and concern among hopeful candidates.

A netizen shared the staggering statistics on social media platform X, revealing that a total of 573,459 applications were received before the January 2 Nigeria Custom Service recruitment registration deadline, while only 3,927 positions are available.

The breakdown of the figures shows that degree and HND holders account for 276,940 applications, NCE and diploma holders make up 128,586, and SSCE holders submitted 167,993 applications.

The overwhelming number of applicants for the Nigerian Custom Service recruitment exercise compared to the limited openings has left many feeling disillusioned about their chances.

The post has generated a flurry of reactions online, with many applicants expressing fear over the highly competitive process. Some users lamented the grim odds of success, noting that less than 1% of the total applicants will be selected. Others shared frustrations over the difficulty of securing jobs despite their qualifications and credentials.

One commenter wrote, “Nigeria’s unemployment crisis is real. Imagine over 570,000 people fighting for just 3,927 slots. It’s heartbreaking.” Another added, “This is like playing the lottery. The odds are just too scary.”

The Nigeria Customs Service had announced the recruitment exercise to fill positions across various cadres, offering a rare opportunity for many unemployed Nigerians. However, with the sheer volume of applications now public knowledge, the process has become a source of both hope and anxiety.

While the NCS is yet to comment on the recruitment numbers or the selection process, applicants are eagerly awaiting the next stage, hopeful that transparency and fairness will be prioritized in choosing successful candidates from this highly competitive pool.
