A woman in Ogun has been arrested for injuring a 10-year-old boy with a razor blade after accusing him of stealing N600. Police have described the incident as a case of child abuse and promptly launched an investigation.

The police in Ogun have arrested a woman, Mrs Fatimah Odeale for allegedly using a razor blade to wound a 10-year-old boy, Olasunkanmi Oluwadamilare. The incident reportedly occurred after the boy was accused of stealing N600.

CSP Omolola Odutola, the police spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Monday. According to her, the case was brought to the attention of the police by a delegation from the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Obada Oko, Abeokuta. The group, led by their coordinator, Moses Olagbegi, arrived at the station with the injured boy.

Odutola stated, “The delegation came to the station with Oluwadamilare, a student of Dinamis private school, Araromi area of Obada Oko, who had serious cuts on his hand.”

She continued, “When questioned, the boy revealed that his guardian, Odeale, from the Housing area of Obada Oko, had caused his injuries. She was arrested and admitted to using a razor blade to inflict the wounds as punishment for stealing N600 to buy ice cream for his friends.”

The police spokesperson also confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered an immediate investigation into the case of the woman who used the razor on the child. “This is a clear case of child abuse,” she added.
