Group Debunks Kidnap Allegation Against Tompolo
By Benjamin Abioye

A group from the South-South region, Niger Delta Integrity Watchdog, has dismissed claims that Chief Government Ekpemupolo, known as Tompolo, is holding Charles Korubo and others hostage.
The accusations came from Jude Gbaboyor, who, in a video, alleged that Korubo had been in Tompolo’s custody since November 2024 and was being held under harsh conditions. Gbaboyor claimed, “Mr. Charles Korubo has allegedly been transferred from Tompolo’s private cell in Oporoza to KFT House in the Kurute community, where he is reportedly chained at the legs.”
In response, the Niger Delta group refuted the allegations in a statement signed by its conveners, Oturubo Ijoukumo, Famous Ololobou, and Samuel Ijeleba. They explained that Tompolo’s security outfit, Tantita Security Services Limited (TSSL), acted within its role as a security company.
The statement clarified, “The truth is that an arrest was made for fact-finding. The job of a security company is to make arrests and hand them over to security agencies. Some people were arrested after the Chevron pipeline was blown up last year. It is normal for proper investigations to be conducted before involving security agencies. That was what Tantita Security Services Limited (TSSL) did.”
They also debunked claims of mistreatment, adding, “If the accusations were true, the whole community would have been affected. But they strictly targeted suspects. The allegations are 99% false. Tantita is a professional security company, and their actions should not be misinterpreted.”
The group urged the public to ignore Gbaboyor’s claims and commended Chief Dennis Otuaro for his efforts in bringing peace and development to the Niger Delta. They acknowledged Otuaro’s role in awarding scholarships and promoting stability in the region, stating, “You are a proud son of the soil who has delivered on your mandate. Please don’t be distracted by clout chasers.”
The statement concluded by encouraging ongoing efforts to maintain peace and unity in the Niger Delta.
