Boniface's Transfer To Al-Nassr Collapses

Victor Boniface’s much-anticipated transfer to Al-Nassr has collapsed unexpectedly, despite personal terms being settled and a successful medical clearance.

Bayer Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes has explained why the transfer of Victor Boniface to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr fell through.

According to Rolfes, certain circumstances led to the collapse of the proposed deal, which had initially been agreed verbally between the two sides.

Al-Nassr had reached a verbal agreement for the transfer of Boniface, valued at approximately €65 million, and had also settled personal terms with the 24-year-old player.

Despite completing his medical examination, the Saudi club decided to cancel the deal. Instead, they chose to sign Aston Villa forward Jhon Durán for a higher fee and a more favorable wage package than what had been offered to Boniface. This move highlighted their preference for the Colombian over the Nigerian striker.

Addressing the failed transfer, Rolfes stated that while Bayer Leverkusen was open to the deal due to the significant financial offer, the situation ultimately fell apart. “The circumstances did not lead to him being sold. Of course, economic considerations always play a role when certain sums are involved,” Rolfes said. “The current situation is that he is very likely to stay. We are happy about that.”

Rolfes confirmed that Boniface remains a Bayer Leverkusen player and will continue his training with the team. “He is still a Bayer 04 player. Of course, there have been talks, but we are happy that he will be training with us tomorrow. I assume that he will stay. He feels comfortable here, his attitude towards the club is unchanged,” Rolfes added. Boniface will now focus on preparing for the upcoming weekend match against Hoffenheim.
