Honest Bunch Nedu Fired

Nedu speaks out after leaving The Honest Bunch Podcast, stating he wasn’t fired, made a personal choice to step down, and won’t engage in social media arguments or drama.

Six days after stepping down from The Honest Bunch Podcast, popular Nigerian radio personality Chinedu ‘Nedu Wazobia’ Emmanuel has spoken about his departure.

The controversy began when social commentator Martins ‘VeryDarkMan (VDM)’ Otse got involved in a dispute linked to the podcast. Reality TV star Aderombi ‘Deeone’ Martin had appeared on the show and alleged that VDM was gay. This statement sparked a major debate online, leading to heated arguments and speculation.

At a press conference on Thursday, Nedu explained that his decision to leave the podcast was entirely his own and not due to external pressure.

The 42-year-old broadcaster made it clear that he was not fired but chose to step away for the sake of the show.

He said, “Let me clarify—I was not fired from Honest Bunch. I was never fired. I chose to step away when the attacks became very personal so that the show could continue and succeed without me. Beyond being the host, I sat down with others and helped develop the concept of Honest Bunch.”

Nedu further explained his role on the podcast, stating that he often played the role of an advocate.

“Even on the show, if you’ve ever hosted a TV or radio programme, you’ll understand that sometimes people play the role of an advocate—that’s my job. Everyone on the show has their role. My job is to ask hard questions and make statements that make people think, even if they wouldn’t say them themselves.”

Nedu admitted that he had faced heavy criticism both before and after stepping down. However, he insisted that everyone is entitled to their opinions.

“Everyone has the right to express their opinions on the show. That’s why, at the beginning of each episode, we clarify that every opinion shared belongs to the guest, not the show. So, everyone has the right to their views and even rebuttals, whether they choose to do it on Instagram, another podcast, or elsewhere.”

Despite the backlash, he said he would not waste time exchanging words with critics.

“A lot has been said about me on social media, but I have to clarify—I will not engage in petty exchanges of words with anybody. That’s not who I am. It has never been my style, and it never will be, to argue with people on social media. I’m not going into that.”

The media personality also dismissed claims that he was hospitalized due to stress from the controversy. He assured people that he was fine and had no health issues.

Speaking on how Honest Bunch operates, he emphasized the importance of professionalism.

“When guests come on the Honest Bunch podcast, we make them feel comfortable before and during the show. Shutting down a guest’s conversation while they are speaking is unprofessional.”

He also addressed concerns about favoritism, saying:

“Another thing I’ll say is that nobody can use their relationship with me to shut down what any guest says on the show. That’s not professional.”

Following Nedu’s resignation, Deeone spoke out in support of him, defending his innocence. He claimed that Nedu never instructed anyone to make controversial statements and accused VDM of twisting the situation to damage Nedu’s reputation.

Deeone went further to call on influential Nigerians, including Peter Obi, Seyi Tinubu, Daddy Freeze, Obi Cubana, E-Money, Davido, Don Jazzy, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and 2Baba, to publicly support Nedu. He argued that this situation was not just about social media content but something more serious.

Additionally, Deeone urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to investigate the matter. He stood by his claims and dared VDM to take legal action against him, insisting that he had enough proof to back his words.

On the other hand, VDM refused to pursue legal action, stating that he operates in a different way and would not take people to court.

The situation remains tense, with both sides sticking to their positions. It is unclear how the controversy will unfold in the coming weeks.
