Outrage Trails Naira Marley’s Statement On Mohbad
By Benjamin Abioye

The Nigerian music industry remains divided as reactions continue to pour in following a statement made by Naira Marley regarding the tragic passing of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
The statement, released via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, aimed to address allegations linking him to Mohbad’s struggles and untimely demise. However, instead of putting the matter to rest, it has ignited a wave of heated debates among fans and critics alike.
In his statement, Naira Marley expressed sorrow over Mohbad’s death, saying:
“Mohbad was an exceptional talent and a good-hearted individual. We are deeply saddened that he has left us so soon. The entire Marlian Music family is heartbroken. While we had our differences, we never wished harm upon him. It is unfortunate that he did not receive the support he needed in his struggles. May his soul rest in peace.”
While some have shown support for Naira Marley, many others have outright rejected his statement, accusing him of attempting to shift blame.
One of the most common themes in the reactions is the call for accountability. A user, @Omolomo_o, stated emphatically:
“NOBODY SAID YOU KILLED MOHBAD. YOU BULLIED HIM!!! YOU ARE A BULLY, SO DON’T SHIFT POST!!! DID YOU BULLY HIM? YES/NO. DID YOU STAND UP FOR HIM WHEN HE WAS ALSO BULLIED IN YOUR HOME? YES/NO?”
Similarly, @ayo30bg directly questioned:
“You bullied that poor boy or not?”
Many fans appear unwilling to separate the past conflicts between the two from the tragedy of Mohbad’s passing. @Mansa_C reinforced this by stating:
“Anyone can be a suspect until they are proven innocent.”
Others believe that Naira Marley has already been “canceled” in the industry and that his attempt to clarify things will not change public perception. @KinqKudos boldly declared:
“You have been canceled, and there is no going back.”
Another user, @L0nnewolf, further echoed this sentiment:
“We no go stream anything you sing.”
Despite the overwhelming criticism, a few voices have come forward to defend the artist. @snazzdam suggested that Naira Marley may actually be innocent in this situation, stating:
“We all doubted you at first, but some of us came to realize you may actually be a victim in all of this. It’s gradually coming to an end. Your broken heart will heal someday.”
Some supporters, such as @realTobiAkinbo, believe that the truth will eventually surface:
“The lies cooked up by the judge are temporary. The truth will definitely come up. Just a question of time, you will make the right confession.”
While Naira Marley has attempted to distance himself from the controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death, the reactions to his statement indicate that the public is far from convinced. The unresolved tensions and ongoing investigations suggest that this conversation is far from over.
For now, one thing remains clear: the demand for justice for Mohbad continues to grow, and neither Naira Marley nor anyone else linked to the late singer will escape public scrutiny anytime soon.
