Rivers Deputy Governor, Ngozi Odu, has dismissed viral claims of her resignation, stating she remains committed to her role and duties.

Rivers State Deputy Governor, Ngozi Odu has refuted widespread claims on her resignation saying that she remains committed to her duties.

Rumors about the resignation of the deputy governor surfaced after a viral video on social media suggested she had stepped down due to political pressure, fueling speculations about the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

In response, her Press Secretary, Owupele Benebo, released a statement on Wednesday categorically denying the reports. He clarified that the deputy governor remains fully dedicated to her role and continues to carry out her responsibilities.

The statement reads, “The Office of the Deputy Governor of Rivers State wishes to categorically debunk the false and misleading reports circulating online suggesting that Her Excellency, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, DSSRS, has resigned.”

Benebo reaffirmed that Prof. Odu is still actively serving alongside Governor Siminalayi Fubara and remains focused on delivering effective governance to the people of Rivers State.

“Contrary to these baseless claims, Her Excellency remains committed to her duties as Deputy Governor, a position she was duly elected to serve alongside His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, the Executive Governor of Rivers State,” he stated.

The statement described Odu as a dedicated public servant and academic who plays a key role in the administration. It also highlighted her contributions to policy-making and governance in the state.

According to Benebo, “Her exemplary leadership and expertise have been invaluable to the administration, and she remains steadfast in her commitment and support to His Excellency, Sir Dr. Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS.”

The Office of the Deputy Governor urged the public to disregard the rumors, calling them misleading and baseless.

“We urge the public to disregard these unfounded reports, which are clearly the product of malicious speculation,” Benebo added in dismissing the rumours that the Rivers State Deputy Governor had tendered her resignation.
