Peter Obi Advises Tinubu On NYSC Corps Member Who Called Him ‘Terrible President’

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed strong solidarity with Ushie Rita Uguamaye, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who allegedly faced threats from NYSC officials after criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration over economic hardship.
In a statement on his X handle, Obi condemned the reported intimidation, warning that suppressing dissenting voices undermines democracy and good governance. He stressed that a government that silences its citizens often lacks accountability and transparency.
Obi in an unsolicited advice to President Tinubu also shared his own experiences with harassment, revealing that he has faced threats and name-calling simply for offering constructive criticism of government policies. He noted that this pattern of intimidation discourages free speech and makes it difficult for the country to progress.
Urging the Tinubu administration to embrace dialogue instead of repression on the issue of the NYSC corps member, Obi emphasized that listening to citizens’ concerns is essential for national development, particularly in key sectors like education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.
He called on Nigerians not to be intimidated into silence but to continue advocating for justice and accountability. According to him, Nigeria should be a country where citizens can voice their frustrations without fear and where leaders take immediate action to address pressing issues.
