“For The First Time I Cried” Funke Akindele Speaks Of Grief From Lagos Election Loss, Mommy’s Death, Marriage Crash (Video)

Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has opened up about her near-death experience and how she cried after the loss of her mother in the aftermath of the 2023 General Election.

In an emotional interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Funke Akindele shared the personal struggles she faced, including the end of her marriage, her mother’s passing, and her defeat in the Lagos State gubernatorial election confessing that she cried over the combined grief.

Funke also addressed accusations that she didn’t care for late actress Esther, a cast member of “Jenifa’s Diary.” She clarified that during that time, she was overwhelmed with her own grief and challenges, and felt wrongly blamed for not giving proper attention to Esther.

The actress revealed that after her mother’s passing, she struggled deeply. She confessed, “I do not like to mourn. I remember when my mom passed on, I just wanted to get out of it quickly. I like to get out of situations quickly.” However, her attempt to avoid emotional breakdowns only led to her suffering, as she nearly died from the emotional strain.

Funke also spoke about her mental and emotional exhaustion, sharing that her heart was aching as she dealt with multiple life challenges. “For the first time, I took my phone, I went live on social media and I’m like, you all should leave me alone. Do I know this person? No, this person came to act in my movie, got paid, and left. Why are you accusing me of something I didn’t do wrong?”

She added, “Do you know what I’m going through? I lost my mum, my marriage fell apart, I lost in politics, I have to get back to work, I have to earn a living. I have children I’m raising alone, and you are stressing me. So, for the first time, I cried. I broke down for weeks.”

This emotional confession that she cried highlights the immense personal hardships Funke Akindele has faced in recent times, making her recovery and resilience even more remarkable.
