NPFL Takes Action Fan Stabbing

NPFL has taken swift action after Plateau United’s Vincent Temitope was stabbed by a Nasarawa fan during a tense clash, sparking outrage and safety concerns.

Nasarawa United has been fined ₦6 million by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) following a security incident during their match against Plateau United on matchday 33 that culminated in a player of Plateau United being stabbed..

The game, which ended in a 3-2 win for Nasarawa United, turned chaotic when a supporter from the home team attacked Plateau United player, Vincent Temitope and stabbed him.

As a result of this security lapse, the league has directed Nasarawa United to relocate their remaining home games to Pantami Stadium in Gombe. This decision was based on serious concerns over the lack of proper security arrangements at the Lafia City Stadium.

The NPFL also ordered the club to find the fan who assaulted Temitope and provide proof that legal action is being taken against the individual.

In addition, the team must submit a detailed crowd management plan to the league board and ensure tighter security measures before they are allowed to return to playing at their Lafia home ground in future seasons.

Nasarawa United has 48 hours to appeal the fine and relocation order following the NPFL’s reaction to the case of the Plateau United player who was stabbed.

While dealing with these sanctions, the team also faces the challenge of staying in the league. They are currently 14th on the table with 42 points from 33 matches—only four points above the relegation zone.
