Bayo Onanuga confirms that President Bola Tinubu will return to Nigeria today, marking the end of his two-week working visit abroad.

President Bola Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria Monday, April 21, concluding his nearly two-week overseas trip.

This was confirmed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who shared the update on social media. Onanuga wrote: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will return home today.”

The presidency had previously assured the public that President Tinubu was staying engaged with national affairs while abroad. Onanuga clarified that the President had left Paris for London over the weekend, maintaining regular communication with key government officials. He reiterated that the President’s absence was temporary, in line with the originally communicated schedule, with his return planned for today, following the Easter holidays.

Onanuga further emphasized that Tinubu’s commitment to his duties remained strong, assuring Nigerians that governance continued without interruption. “The President’s commitment to his duties remains unwavering, and his administration continues to function effectively under his leadership,” Onanuga added.

President Tinubu left Nigeria for Paris on April 2, 2025, for a working visit to assess his administration’s mid-term performance and evaluate key milestones. However, his extended stay abroad has sparked criticism, particularly as insecurity has risen in several regions, including Plateau and Benue states.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar criticized the President’s prolonged absence, calling it “irresponsible” given the rising violence. “Tinubu is away while Nigeria burns—daily killings, attacks, and loss of territories. This is deeply troubling,” Atiku said. “Nigerians are yearning for real leadership—someone who’s present and actively engaged.”

Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, also expressed concern, pointing to the increasing deaths from insecurity during the President’s absence. “In the two weeks you have been away, over 150 Nigerians have lost their lives to insecurity,” Obi said. He urged the President to return immediately to take charge of the situation.

In response, the All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed these criticisms, defending the President’s approach and assuring the public that national governance remained on track.
