The president, however, reiterated his government’s determination to keep the rule of law and offered insights into his administration’s moves towards addressing the agitation of the #EndSARS protesters.

He said that he had given directives to the authorities concerned to increase the salaries of policemen and other paramilitary agencies even as he rehearsed his administration’s efforts towards lifting the country out of poverty including signature programmes such as tradermoni.

His silence on the Lekki carnage is, however, folding into fury on twitter with many Nigerians raising issues with the president on the issue.

On the welfare of policemen, he said:

“With regard to the welfare of police personnel, the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission has been directed to expedite action on the finalization of the new salary structure of members of the Nigeria Police Force. The emoluments of other paramilitary services are also being reviewed upwards.”

He also asked critical members of the international community to also make enquires before taking positions on issues pertaining to Nigeria.

“To our neighbours in particular, and members of the international community, many of whom have expressed concern about the ongoing development in Nigeria, we thank you and urge you all to seek to know all the facts available before taking a position or rushing to judgment and making hasty pronouncements.”
