Why I Withdrew As Maina’s Surety – Ndume
By Chuks Ekpeneru
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Senator Ali Ndume, has given reason for terminating the surety bond he signed for the former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Force Team, Abdulrasheed Maina.
Senator Ndume stood surety for Maina, in his case of money laundering before Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
Ndume is representing Borno South Senatorial District in the Senate and Maina is from that constituency.
Ndume in an interview in Abuja, said that Maina is not trustworthy and has directed his legal team to begin the process of terminating the surety bond.
Maina jumped bail and escaped to Niger after Ndume agreed to stand surety for him.
Maina was subsequently arrested in Niger Republic by INTERPOL and repatriated to the country on Thursday.
“With the successful arrest, extradition and subsequent remand of Maina at the Kuje Correctional Centre, I will proceed to direct my legal team to begin the process of withdrawing my suretyship for Maina with immediate effect because his action has shown that he is not trustworthy.”
